Dolly Read

Dolly was Playmate of the Month for May 1966. Her pictorial was titled Bunny From Britain.

Dolly was born Sept. 13, 1944, in Bristol, England. She landed her first acting role in an episode of the British TV series “Maigret” in 1962 and got her first movie role in “The Kiss of the Vampire” (1963). She went on to perform in a handful of British TV shows in the early 1960s.

According to “The Playmate Book: Five Decades of Centerfolds,” Dolly moved to Chicago to learn to be a Bunny so she could train them for the planned London Playboy Club. She also worked at Playboy Clubs in Chicago and New York City.

Following her Playmate of the Month pictorial, Dolly had an uncredited bit part in the movie “Casino Royale” in 1967 and in the low-budget erotic film “That Tender Touch” in 1969. Her best known movie role was that of rock singer-guitarist Kelly MacNamara in “Beyond the Valley of the Dolls” (1970). She appeared a lot as a guest star in TV shows and game shows.

Dolly married comedian Dick Martin in 1971. They divorced in 1975 but were remarried in 1978 and remained married until his death in 2008.
